Biography
Black Light Smoke is composer/producer/songwriter Jordan Lieb. His records and live sets showcase a melange of jackin' house, 80s post punk, italo and electro, at times infused with his unique vocals.
Jordan Lieb, aka Black Light Smoke, is a Chicago native who transplanted to New York City in 2001, and now lives in Nashville, TN. Jordan is a Daytime Emmy Award wining composer, as well as a multi-genre producer, songwriter and DJ.
Black Light Smoke first lit up the house music scene on Brooklyn’s Scissor & Thread Records in 2010 with his debut single Lovework, spurred on by a remix from DJ T. His follow up EPs made no less of a splash, with “Rough Cuts” (2013) and its infectious dance floor killer “That’s My Yes”; and “Firefly” (2014), two tracks from which were featured in Ana Lily Amirpour’s 2016 indie cult film “The Bad Batch”.
Black Light Smoke has branched out with releases on Voodoo Down, hafendisko, Cut Mistake Music, and Nein Records, showcasing his span of influences from house and techno to italo and minimal synth, often infusing his own haunting, post punk styled vocals. In 2019 he returned to Scissor & Thread with his City Life EP, sparking another wave of beaming feedback from dance heads and vinyl connoisseurs alike.
Black Light Smoke has performed his engaging live sets at Fabric in London, Boiler Room, Robot Heart, the BPM festival in Mexico, and in many cities across North America. He also curates his own podcast series, Death Decay Magic, a platform for DJs to explore the eclectic depths of their record crates.
